Flashback: Downton Abbey (TV)

Happy Friday, dearies! ❤

Another week has gone by, and here we are with a new Flashback, this time for this amazing show that I do not get tired of re-watching.

Downton Abbey. Haven’t done a Flashback Friday in a while, so it deserves to be an incredible one, and I think I chose a good story and show. There are movies, yes, but this one is about the TV Show that aired from 26 September 2010 – 25 December 2015 on ITV. 📺

The Final Girl Support Group

A mystery? Yes, it sort of was, but was it horror? Not really. This book dives into the mind of a Final Girl, literally. But that’s just one opinion.

3⭐

Author: Grady Hendrix

Genre: Horror, Thriller, Fiction, Mystery

Well, I have my doubts about the horror tag or thriller, it’s more Mystery and Drama than anything else.

Hello, dearies! 📽

This one it’s more like a movie than a book, and you find yourself thinking about all the horror movies you watched in the past, and trying to pair those with the characters in the book rather than paying attention to the storyline.

Kon’nichiwa, dearies! ⭐️

I haven’t enjoyed an Anime in a while, but this one had me glued to the screen, and the best was that the second season had just aired this year, so I got to see both in one go, problem now is that I’ll have to wait for season 3. Or I can read the Light Novel and not wait for that, so I bought the first one, it’s waiting on my Kindle.

After saying that, let’s recap on Classroom of the Elite, an anime that makes you doubt everyone and start saying, repeatedly, don’t trust them.

Daisy Darker

This is the first audiobook I ever listened to, I don’t know if I’ll go back for another. On Daisy Darker? I don’t know if I’ll come back for more books from this author.

Author: Alice Feeney

Genres: Suspense, Drama, Thriller (?)

⭐⭐⭐

I give credit when and where credit is due.

Hello, dearies! 🐚

A new month is here, and only now am I publishing a new one, but the days just blend together lately.

Daisy Darker was my first audiobook, and half of the time I thought, I could be reading this instead of listening and it’ll be faster and perhaps a bit more interesting. But that is not part of the review, just a thought about audiobooks.

The Nothing Man: Review?

“Fiction only really worked if it was built like a lattice through which you were repeatedly offered glimpses of absolute truth.”

Author: Catherine Ryan Howard

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Adult, Suspense

Hello, dearies! 📝

Here’s another I wouldn’t have picked up from a shelf on a trip to the bookstore, yet I read it.

The Nothing Man is one of those books that didn’t have my full attention until about sixty per cent of it was already behind me.

I could have left it on the side, I could have stopped reading long before that half mark, but I pushed on, and I am sorry for those who are fans, but it didn’t amount to much at the end.

About Authors and Descriptions in Books

What happens when we read?

Hello, dearies!

Well, this one is a bit of a random but related to books, so not so much.

I saw online this comment about how authors write something and people (readers) criticise them for it, they even go as far as to make campaigns or whatever against authors, just because they didn’t like something in a book. A description, a cliche, or anything that the author decided was to be that way, but why go to such lengths as to try to make other readers ban the book or try that that writer never touches a keyboard again?

ebook week smashwords

Let me give you some context from my particular experience.

When an author wants to include Spanish words or talks about someone being Latino, I find it funny most of the time because it looks forced to me, and sometimes think that they have no right to try to describe a situation they’re not quite knowledgeable in, or perhaps I’m wrong and they saw it that way growing up. So I just let those slide as a Latin American person, even if at times, I find something offensive or ridiculous, I’m not going to leave a trashy review or offend the author because I don’t know why the author decided to portray a character or scene in that way, and I could make a mistake at some point without meaning it.

It’s difficult to sit down and finish a book, it’s even more difficult to publish it. I am going to go out of my way and say that no matter if you’re an indie author or an author with a contract in a publishing house, it’s the same kind of feeling of how will they take it? Of course, as an Indie Author, in my particular case, I publish and let it be because I have no fame whatsoever, and as far as I know, people read and don’t leave reviews or leave poor reviews because they don’t like it, and that’s fine. Not all books are for everyone.

My point is, don’t trash an author that you don’t like and try to get people behind you to do the same, what if that person, yes there’s a person behind those words you don’t like, what if they lived a strange life and decided they wanted to write their own experience? Or maybe they decided to write whatever came to mind and didn’t feel like investigating a lot, or they did and still decided to write a story from their own point of view, couldn’t that be the case? We don’t know what a person is going through or went through, in my case, if I don’t like a book, I’m not going to leave a 1-star review or say don’t read it, it’s horrible. I simply move on with my life and pick up another read, and I rather not leave a review at all. Although I may not finish a book that I don’t like after fifty per cent or less, I’ll just stop reading.

I just wanted to share some of my thoughts on this one. Sorry about the sort of random post.

As always, thank you for reading to the end, and for a book review, you can check the main site or under Reviews by Genre and find all the goods over there.

Happy reading!

Friday Flashback: Eclipse

“I coveted you. I had no right to want you–but I reached out and took you anyway. And now look what’s become of you! Trying to seduce a vampire.”

Happy Friday, dearies! 📚

Here we are once more. A new Friday, a new Flashback.

And a random one for this Friday’s Flashback. 🧛

I just thought, why not? Eclipse, book #3 in the Twilight Series, was one of my favourites, and I re-read it so many times (back then) that I wore it out and on the outside it stopped looking new, meaning it’s well-used now. 😄

Quick fun fact about House of the Dragon

So, what about Hightower?

Hello, dearies! 🐉

You know what’s funny about House of the Dragon storyline and promo is that they say, return to Westeros and meet the history of Targaryen and Hightower, like fans of the show will hardly know what you’re referring to with Hightower, they scratched the surface with that house.

I bet not even half of those who watched the show would even be able to say, ah yes I know that house.

And no, the one you’re probably thinking about is the Tyrells, who are from Highgarden.

In the books, of course, we know a lot more about them like the fact that Margery Tyrell’s mother was (is?) from Hightower.

Fact

House Hightower of the Hightower is one of the most powerful of the noble houses in the Reach. Their seat is the Hightower, located in the city of Oldtown. The sigil of House Hightower is a stone white watchtower, with a fire on the top.

So, yes, just a fun fact for everyone out there, I saw a promo vid for House of the Dragon and thought, huh, do they even know?

hightower house books

I’m currently reading Fire and Blood, and it’s interesting, to say the least, I hope to finish it before the show is out, but as most of George R. R. Martin’s books are a thousand million pages long, then that remains to be seen if I’ll finish quickly or not.

I’ll keep you posted and look for the review on it.
