The Bane Chronicles: Saving Raphael Santiago

‘Word had spread throughout New York that Magnus was the warlock who would get you out of a jam. There was a Sanctuary, too, up in Brooklyn, if you needed to hide, but the witch who ran it didn’t solve your problems. Magnus solved problems. So why not get paid for it?’

Story: Saving Raphael Santiago

Authors: Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan

Book: The Bane Chronicles – Book #6

Genres: Vampires, Fantasy, YA, Short Story

Hello, dearies! 🦇

I’m trying a new thing for Thursdays or Fridays, a sort of Throwback post or Flashback, and I thought this one would be perfect for it as The Bane Chronicles is a throwback indeed or a flashback if you must, at least for me.

As Today is Thursday, this is the first Throwback Thursday book review, thoughts.

Saving Raphael Santiago it’s not all that engraved in my mind, don’t ask me why because I cannot recall, but it was of the stories in The Bane Chronicles, so of course, I had to read it.

The Bane Chronicles: The Rise of the Hotel Dumort

‘At least a pretty flapper vampire talking nonsense was better than a slobbering drunk werewolf. Magnus nodded as if listening and mentally counted the bottles of brandy and rum in the storage shelves below the bar.’

The Bane Chronicles Book #5

Authors: Cassandra Clare & Maureen Johnson

Genre: Fantasy, YA, Short Stories, Paranormal, Vampires.

Hello, dearies! 🦇

With this one, The Rise of the Hotel Dumort, we jumped ahead in time to 1929, and not only that but New York, meaning the place where The Mortal Instruments will be lively, in the future; but we are still years away from that, and we experience the Hotel Dumort and what happened to it and their vampires. 🧛

This is a tale we wanted to know about from the TMI series, where we read about the Hotel and the past, and Magnus, so we go there and check out the events. I know I’m not saying that much, but this story is worth reading for the first time with an unbias look, so I’ll leave it to Magnus to tell you the story.

The Bane Chronicles: The Midnight Heir

The One that we didn’t see coming and after we read it, we fell in love with yet another Herondale boy.

The Bane Chronicles Book 4

Authors: Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan

Genre: Fantasy, YA, Short Story, Magic, Urban.

Hello, dearies! Now, this one, wow. It’s one of my favourites in this collection. 🙂

It was supposed to be an easy one because I loved it, but thinking about the story, I remembered what it means for the rest of the shadowhunter world, and how anything I say may affect the story on the books that came after.

Mild spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned. 🖍️

The Bane Chronicles: The Runaway Queen

“It was a very bad idea. It was a terrible idea. It was the worst idea he had ever heard. It was irresistible.”

The Bane Chronicles Book 2

Authors: Cassandra Clare & Maureen Johnson

Genres: Fantasy. YA.

It’s not easy writing about what you have read years ago, but I do my best here. The Runaway Queen is the second story in The Bane Chronicles, the compilation about Magnus Bane life before and some after he met Alec, and from the time we read about Magnus in The Mortal Instruments, we wanted to know this kind of story since he is quite old and had many things to tells us throughout the books.

Shadowhunters TV: Finale

Here we go, Angels.

Please stop right now if you do not know a thing about the Shadow World, Shadowhunters TV or if you have not read all of the books in this series, that is: The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Bane Chronicles, Tales from the Shadowhunters Academy or The Dark Artifices. You have been warned, spoilers ahead.

Shadowhunters TV So Far: New Characters

Hello, readers! Thank you for coming back to the site for more Shadowhunters TV, you were here for something else? Well, you are reading this now so no matter. I have not written a word about the Shadow World on Freeform for some time and mainly it is because I had not had the time to watch all the episodes, when Season 2 ended it escaped my mind to come here, and once Season 3 started I did not watch all episodes straightaway (*stupid working adult life*) but anyways, as of right now I have watched up to Episode 7 of Season 3, and could not hold back on letting some steam up here.

Here we go, this one will be short (hopefully) so do not worry, and mainly it would be me talking (*cough* ranting) about a couple of characters, specially the new ones. You must know where this is heading if you watched Ep 6 and 7.

Mild spoiler for those who have not watched the show so far.

Lilith shadowhunters Jace

What’s New

New Characters

Brother Zachariah

The moment Magnus mentioned him I stopped listening to the rest of the episode, there was nothing else but Brother Zachariah, how would they bring to life such an amazing character and then he was there and I was screaming all over the place like a fangirl. Mind you I was not watching it alone and my partner in crime, who has not read the books was looking at me like: what is it? Is just a Silent Brother.

But all the fans of the books will know why I freaked.

Lilith

To the designers and make-up artists of the show: What is up with her makeup? And sometimes her choice in clothes? Not very good.

Lilith was not entirely what we were expecting, what I was at least. She came off a bit crazier than necessary. And the way she possessed Jace? Nobody really said how come she had possessed him because he did not have all the Shadowhunter protections they are given at birth, the ceremony performed to them, they just skimmed over it, but whatever, right? No! But moving on.

Kyle

I was saying Jordan even before they said who he was. Oops, was that spoiler? I’m sorry I thought everyone had watched so far.

shadowhunters kyle jordan

Heidi (?)

Heidi who should be Maureen, then again in the show they do what they want without looking too much into the facts from the books, and Maureen appeared only a thousand million moons ago and they did not give her the proper importance she had, so this is fine as well, I suppose. Heidi is just as crazy as Maureen eventually was, so that must count for something for the writers of the show.

Izzy’s Beau

What is up with the doctor? The mundane? We all know Izzy is awesome and does not discriminate in any account but I really did not get this, is it to eventually get her to the love of her life? Who we perfectly now who he is? I did not understand this character who I am having trouble even remembering his name, sorry not sorry.

New Relationships

The One that surprised but also made me say: Ooh!

Should I say it? I am going to, you probably watched all the episodes already, but Luke and Maryse, I mean they clicked straightaway with one look across the bar. Yes, we all know that this is a total lie and Luke from the books has eyes for no one but Jocelyn, who is still alive! In the books that is. But this was fine, I said: Sure, what the hell? No problem.

Izzy and her new one

Dinner with this guy, who I still cannot remember his name nor am I trying to remember. Really I did not understand this at all.

New Institute Guy

Ugh! I spent the whole time thinking: He won’t do it, right? Alec would not do that. And he did not, thank the Angel because I would had been truly upset if something would had happened.

Alright I am done for the moment, there is more to come, I am watching all episodes without stop now and want to catch up with the story so far. Stay tunned for more, Angels!

shadowhunters tv season 3

If you have watched the episodes so far, up until these ones that I mentioned, let me know and no spoiler on the comments, don’t be mean to the other readers. I hope you enjoyed and please feel free to look at the rest of the stories on the blog.

Happy reading!

Queen of Air and Darkness

Author: Cassandra Clare

The Dark Artifices #3

Genre: YA, Supernatural, Fantasy, Romance, Drama, Crying, Throwing the book across the room

This is not going to be easy, and I do not think it is going to be really short.

Last night I finished Queen of Air and Darkness (QOAAD from now on), if I had read it in December when it came out it would have been the Best Read of 2018, alas, it was not, it is the Best Read of 2019 so far, and unless The Red Scrolls of Magic is something incredibly amazing and even more epic, it will stay the best book, because Cassie Clare did it again, she went a step forward, she makes you want to be inside the book, inside the Shadow World, be part of a family, be part of a world that you only know through words on paper, it was awesome.

The Bane Chronicles: What Really Happened in Peru

The Bane Chronicles

Authors: Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan

Illustrator: Cassandra Jean

Genres: YA. Fantasy

How do you write a review about a book this size without losing some of its charm on the way? I do not know, so I decided to do it story by story, because I can and because every story in The Bane Chronicles deserves to have a little piece here.

Shadowhunters so far and Malec

Here we are guys!

Let’s do this while it is still fresh… my sole reaction to THAT moment in the latest episode of Shadowhunters was… Oh. My. God!

As for the rest I was still in shock but the excitement was still there.

Now, let us retreat a little in time to the other episodes, I know I haven’t posted much about the rest, but I was really busy… Simon, is already a vampire, that is kind of fast… Alec proposing to someone who does not exist was a bit crazy, the world inverted was kind of cool but still out of this world (no joke intended)… and I think it will give the producers of the show something to go on for when they get to more exciting things, like what happens in book 5 and when they introduce us Sebastian. Spoiler much? Not really, if you are a fan of the saga then you know what I am talking about.
