The Potato Lab [Special] NTFLX

A Special K-Drama Moment: The Potato Lab

Original name: 감자연구소

Written by: Kim Ho-soo

First aired: March 1 to April 6, 2025

The accuracy with which Netflix recommended this one to me was uncanny. By chapter 3 I was super hooked and ready to continue watching. 🥔

But in episode 1 I was still on the fence and it took me a couple of days to finish it. 🙃

Main Characters

  • Lee Sun-Bin as Kim Mi-Kyung
  • Kang Tae-oh as So Baek-Ho
  • Lee Hak-Joo as Park Gi-Se
  • Kim Ga-Eun as Lee Ong-Joo (A web novelist, and BFF of our LF character)
  • Shin Hyun-Seung as Kim Hwan-Kyeong (Mi-Kyeong younger brother, who runs an AirB’B in the back of his house, like a whole apartment there for guests)

There is also The Potato Lab team, and other sides ones, but for the sake of me, I will focus on the main ones.

The Story

The story is a bit crazy, and all over the place if you don’t pay attention, but once you know, it gets easier to follow it to the final episode.

However, this is my warning, there might be spoilers ahead.

The Potato Lab is essentially a funny show with romance, or romantic comedy, it follows Kim Mi-Kyung as she works herself off in her job, only to have it threatened by HR when management changes and her skills are put to question, because she doesn’t have a degree or a specialty in the field in the lab, but she is just proving what a lot of people has proven, that you don’t need a degree to do something that you know how to do, I certainly don’t and I got two jobs already in the same field (An Outreach Specialist in my muggle job, if you were wondering).

In any case, So Baek-Ho (the lead MC) is, of course, the one who will fire her, and essentially her boss as he is transferred to The Lab, as the story progresses these two have personalities that clash way too much, but underneath that often cold demeanor of Baek-Ho, hold and behold, a charming personality, and a helping one, too.

But if you ask me, there is nothing like the story of Mi-Kyung’s brother and Lee Ong-Ju, the best friend who lives with them, because yes, they all live in the same house in a small town, because, why not? So these two are close, and always on top of each other, Hwan-Kyeong confessed, it seems, a bunch of times to her, but she always rejected him, and from the beginning of the story I was following that up, eager to know more, but also because Ong-Ju is a writer, and that just made me latch on and relate, I found her character fascinating.

Of course, as the story progressed, they put those old feelings into questions, and living together even more so. I warned you there were spoilers, but I won’t say how it all happened in the end, but I will say this: it was awesome.

I like that part of the story in equals measures with the main story to be honest, I did enjoy the whole show, how the main two hang out more, talked, fought, and all the good bits of a show that is meant to make you laugh and entertained with the romance developing.

I know, I’m not saying everything that happened, but I cannot help myself, I cannot give all the details.

In any case, I hadn’t watched a show with these two actors (I haven’t watched Squad 38, Sketch, Thirty-Nine, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, or Doom at Your Service) but still, Netflix decided to recommend it, and I clicked yes, and well, here we are. I really liked it.

Now, I am a fan of these two, and Let’s Go to the Moon (new show) is on my list, is with Lee Sun-bin and I’ve watched a few snippets on TV, pretty cool.

But yes, that’s me, I recommend The Potato Lab if you like weird, funny, romance shows.

Have you watched 감자연구소?

Scorched by Darkness [Eternal Mates #18] Book Review

The story of Hartt, and another story to soon go to the story in book 19.

Oh boy, I do like the dark ones. And the elves.

Welcome, dearies! 📖

It is a new day for a book review about Eternal Mates, this time book 18. If you were here when I started with these, you have followed the progress with me.

If you arrived at Avenged by an Angel book 16, you might know that I read 3 of these books in a row. 16, 17, and 18. I was building myself up to this one to be honest. I could have jumped from Unchained by a Forbidden Love to this one, but I decided to follow the order.

I am glad I did, and at the same time a bit disappointed because it was a journey that veered off from what I was expecting.

The thing about these books as that you could read them as stand-alone but at the same time, not, because there are some details let’s say from Kissed by a Dark Prince, Book 1, that you might need for this one book 18. So, I read more of these but at the same time could have skipped some parts.

Avenged by an Angel [Eternal Mates #16] Book Review

But when the price of vengeance is the soul of the angel bringing her back to life, will Emelia be willing to pay it?

So much hope… I had so many hopes for it. 😶‍🌫️

Hello, dearies! 🪽

At this point, you might have noticed that I like these books 😆 I cannot seem to stop myself from buying them. Since I picked up the Eternal Mates series again, I have not been able to stop until I get to the bottom of it all. Although, the last one I read seemed to take a small turn, a wee one from what I had read on this one and book #17. Alright I’m getting ahead of myself because I read 3 of these in a row.

I shall focus on Avenged by an Angel, which I had wanted to read since book 7? The one on Taken by a Dragon, I think; like honestly, I knew this one was coming at some point and when I began reading, it all seemed to point in the right direction, and then? To be honest, I stopped reading for a bit, it was kind of predictable, but I still read it and liked it, but was not as: whoa! As I had expected.

Five Fingers Book Challenge pt. 2

The 5 Fingers Book Challenge is back… now to pick other 5 books. 📖✋️

Hello, dearies! Welcome to a new book challenge! 😊

For this second round I went with books that I don’t have on paperback but I wish I did. 📚

So, I don’t have a photo of my hand on each book as last time, but that is okay, too. 😆 Regardless, the basics remain, and each finger is for a book.

10 Book Characters from Romances to Go Back to

“I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have.”
Outlander – J.F

Male Characters that is… 😏

Hello, dearies! 🙃

Because of a post on one of my favourite book characters, I realised that I haven’t updated or done a book characters from romances in like ever, I have never done it.

So, here we are… I’ll try to keep it short… even when we know that it is not my forte. 😆

Unchained by A Forbidden Love [Eternal Mates #15] Book Review

Unchained by a Forbidden Love had me hooked from the start with its angst and intensity, but repetitive moments and a bit too much inner monologue kept it just shy of a perfect 5. Still, Fuery’s story and that eternal love were worth every page.

If it is not an easy 5, I have to give it 4.

Book: Unchained by a Forbidden Love

Series: Eternal Mates #15

Author: Felicity Heaton

Page count: 290

Genres: Fantasy. Romance. Paranormal. Fae. Shapeshifters. Dark Elves.

I wanted to give this one 5 so badly, and the first 10% to 60% I read non stop, there it was the juicy part and the angst, the falling for the characters.

Hello, dearies! 💜

I started off this one without any greeting but I had to get it out first. Well then… what was missing in Unchained by a Forbidden Love? What made me rethink and not go for the top rating? Probably the repetitive moments or long internal dialogues.

I get it, they were necessary at some points to convey the dilemma of Fuery, not so much with Shaia, she was a bit annoying to be honest.

TBT: The Smoke Thief

‘Creatures of extraordinary beauty, power, and sensuality, they possess the ability to shape-shift from human to dragon and back again. Now their secret—and their survival—is threatened by a temptation that will break every boundary.’

Hello, dearies! 🐲

It’s been a while since I did a TBT, but recently I have been feeling that longing to re-read a good book and one that I have loved for a while is The Smoke Thief by Shana Abé.

This was the first book I read by this author I think 10 years ago or so, wow! I did not expect to think back and see that it has been that long since I first picked up and only after a small description and learning that it was about dragons, that was more than enough for me.

Possessed by a Dark Warrior [Eternal Mates #9] Book Review

‘A powerful warrior and commander of the dark elf legions, Bleu is a loyal and devoted male, and one who has never failed in anything—except one thing. Love…’

Maybe I set my expectations too high.

Perhaps I thought too much while reading it.

Or simply Bleu was not what I was expecting but this had all the potential.

Book Title: Possessed by a Dark Warrior

Book Series: Eternal Mates #9

Author: Felicity Heaton

Genres: Romance. Demons. Shapeshifters. Paranormal. Fantasy.

Page Count: 453 pages

4 ⭐

4 stars and I am being generous. I have a soft spot for elves as you might know from my other reviews of these series. And I like romance fantasy, however, there was something not quite there and I cannot wrap my finger around it.
