Flashback: Onyx

“His lips tipped up one side and he leaned toward me, his mouth inches from mine. “Come and get it.”

Hello, dearies!

Today’s Flashback is more an I Wish I could Read this Book as if it Were the First Time.

So, Onyx. Do you know the Lux Series? This is book 2 in the series, I have talked a bit about them in the past, back when I first read them and loved them so much.

Now, I recently started re-reading it all, from prequel to the last one, and I devoured Shadows and Obsidian, books 0.5 and 1 in like two days, I was working so it would have been quicker if not for that. And then, when it came to Onyx, I felt for over half the book like I wanted to forget it all and be reading it for the first time, and it’s not because of that total awesomeness feeling, is because Katy was getting on my nerves and I knew what would happen and the mistakes she was making.

Every time something happened or an explanation was odd, I was like: ugh bulls–. He’s totally lying. It was so frustrating at times that I had to put the book down and continue later on, so I didn’t read it as fast as the other two.

But I had gone over it all, and made it to book 3, Opal, which I think is one of my favourites, I know I love the last two for sure, and Obsidian is pretty good, but my memories are not latched on Onyx and Opal, I think I read them so close by back in the day that they are mingled together in my mind.

What I do know and have confirmed once more, is that this is one of my favourite sagas, it’s been a while since I re-read it all books, and I know I’ll want to jump into The Brightest Night afterwards, but I don’t know how that’s going to go since I’m travelling soon, but I think that no matter how big that hardcover is I’m taking it with me somehow. TBN is book 3 in the Origin series, which is sort of (not really) a sequel to the events in the Lux books. But yes, I think this is what I needed to focus on it and finish reading that book, which I stopped because of events in my life, and well, it’s been sitting on my shelf with a bookmark stuck on about 10-20% after I started and put it down last year, or was it the year before that? I can’t remember.

Oh, sorry, I went off track there from the main point of today’s post, which is Onyx. Have you read it? Because I think it was good, even if Katy Swartz was asking for a smack over the head for all the dumb things she was doing, what is it with second books in sagas? Is it a semi-rule that heroines had to do dumb things in them? Nobody told me that, but it seems that way sometimes.

But for this week’s flashback, I wanted to make it an appreciation too, so I picked Onyx for this, and would I continue to recommend it? Despite it all, yes, it’s necessary in the series, I understand that, and the slow burn is excruciating at times, but the whole book is great. I hope you’ll re-read it soon or you will start reading this saga even after years of it being published.

Thank you for sticking to the end, and I hope my rambling didn’t throw you off that much.

Don’t forget to check my social media where at times I post, except for Pinterest, I’m active there every week. That’s really it!

Happy reading, dearies! 👽
