Hello, dearies!
Welcome to another Friday Flashback, this is a special one for me, because of the nostalgia that sometimes Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi brings on for me.
A long time ago, I watched a Yaoi anime, and then, I found out I could read it online, so I did, because there was more story to it than what the anime had shown me, and after 3 chapters? I was hooked even more than I had been watching all seasons of the anime. It was complete insanity from then on.
And now, every time I see something that relates to it, there is the feeling of nostalgia, that little wave of it sparks and immediately I want to go back and read it from the beginning, but the thing is that the anime is almost ruined for me, lol. Because the manga is so much better. And as of 2026, the Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi manga is still ongoing in Japan, with 21 collected volumes published, so there is plenty to catch up on if you haven’t yet. Volume 21 was released in Japan in May 2026.
Being honest, I do like it better than Junjou Romantica and I have mentioned that before, and while I haven’t read the ending of either of these, I still go back to them and talk about them plenty to express the love for the stories and the plot twists that seem to happen every so often, specially on Sekai-Ichi.

Manga: Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi
Japanese: 世界一初恋 (Romanised: Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi)
English: The World’s Greatest First Love
Author: Shungiku Nakamura
First published: 2006
Status: Ongoing
Genres: Boys’ Love (BL), Romance, Comedy, Drama, Slice of Life
So, The World’s Greatest First Love, the manga, it was first published back in 2006, and the fact that tankōbon volumes are still being published is unbelievable to me, considering how other manga and even books run for a certain time and end. But this one just keeps going, and you end up wanting to keep it going and read Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi several times because it feels like a more complete story than most.
If you’ve never read the manga before, I truly recommend giving it a try, particularly if you already enjoyed the anime. You can find paperback editions online. Availability can vary depending on where you live, let me know in the comments and I’ll see if I can help you find an official edition.
But that’s all for this one, dearies!
It’s been a while since I talked and focused on Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi 😌 like this, and I hope you have been enjoying the recent throwbacks and flashbacks of the past few weeks.
