Maid Sama! 会長はメイド様!

“In my opinion, giving a kiss is a much better prize than receiving one.”

Maid-sama!

This one is long overdue.

Manga: Maid Sama! (Japanese: 会長はメイド様!, Hepburn: Kaichō wa Meido-sama!, “The Class President Is a Maid!”)

Author: Hiro Fujiwara

Anime: Maid-sama (Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!) on Hulu

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Shojo, Young Adult

Hello, dearies! I watched Maid Sama! a long time ago, it seems it was ages past but more like ten years ago. It made me want to re-watch it.

After watching it, I was in a frenzy because I wanted to know what else had happened since, as with many anime, you don’t quite know what happens in the end and you don’t get the whole story. There are very few that follow the original story, this is a bookish (readers) problem that we often find the adaptations to be lacking in some way. But with anime, you get a little more excited and can watch calmly.

For this one, Maid Sama! I was not certain that I would be able to read the manga, and it wasn’t until years later that I managed to get my hands on a copy of it and read all of it, know how it ended, and I was right, as there was a lot more to the story than what the anime shows you.

So for the purpose of this entry today, I will recommend the manga entirely, and the anime just a tad because I like the soundtrack and the flow of it. Now, a bit of the story.

Maid-Sama!

Or Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama!

Misaki Ayuzawa is the President of the Student Council at Seika High School, formerly an all-boys school.

Unfortunately, most of the students are still male and stuck in their slovenly habits, so man-hating Misaki really socks it to them in an attempt to make the school presentable to attract more female students. But what will she do when the sexiest boy in school finds out that after school, Misaki works in a maid cafe.

This might seem like a spoiler, but it’s the manga’s description, so 🤷 there you have it. In the first chapter, you get all of this, and how Misaki doesn’t want anyone to know that she has a job at a cafe where they dress as maids and have to greet clients as if they were actually maids, which is something a little bit into the realm of sexual innuendoes. But that aside, you get to know Usui and Misaki, and their relationship develops naturally.

maid sama! cover vol 2

There are a lot of characters on Maid Sama! but most that you will become to love are at the cafe. Here are some of them: Satsuki Hyoudou, HonokaErika, Subaru.

Aoi Hyoudou. Satsuki’s nephew, the son of Satsuki’s older brother, and student of Seisen Middle School who enjoys cross-dressing. He likes “cute things” and being the centre of attention, not unlike a young girl. His androgynous features allow him to pass off as a girl and his female persona is well known as a cute Internet idol, this one needed their own mention. 🙃

Now, I am aware that I am missing quite a few characters, from other schools, from Seika High School, and from Misaki’s household as well, but I rather you get to know them when you read the manga or watch the anime, no judgment about which one you choose.

However, have you read and/or watched Maid Sama!? I think it’s worth giving it a try and seeing if they manage to catch your attention, which will probably happen if you like shōjo.

takumi misaki

I don’t think I mentioned Usui enough, but he’s the main character, and his antics will make you laugh each time, and there is a reason why he is on my list of Manga characters.

Okay, that’s it for now. I hope you enjoy the read, or you will add this one to your TBR or To-watch list. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read this one, and don’t forget to like and share with those interested in manga and anime, and those you want to be into it too. 💡

Happy reading, dearies! ✨
