Author: Philip Pullman
Genre: Fantasy, High Fantasy, Science Fantasy
So Fantasy, yes.
I read these books a long time ago so bear with me.
The main thing I always remember about His Dark Materials books is that I found them utterly fascinating and I could not stop reading after finishing the first one, the second and third had to be read and they were far more exciting than the Northern Lights. I’m not going to go into it book by book but probably jump around between the three, I hope you are ready.
If I am not mistaken, I read Northern Lights after watching the very far from the book movie “The Golden Compass“, I found the whole concept of having your soul or your spirit animal or your daemon to be awesome, so after watching the movie I was left with more questions than answers and clearly, the book was the best choice, and it was great so much so that I ended up ‘stealing’ the copies my brother had of The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, and it was the best thing I could have done. BTW: who wouldn’t want a dæmon?
The Subtle Knife ended up being one of my favourite books and it pushed me to say (along with others) that sometimes second books are great, when in most instances they are not.
I am actually going to read them again, and the ones that came out after these ones because I cannot remember it all at the time, but you know a book or a series or saga or trilogy, whatever, is incredibly good that years of reading them if someone asks you: did you like that book? – You say: It’s awesome! You should read it. Then it is most definitely great, even if the details are a bit fuzzy.
I don’t have much to say about these ones, but I do know that I am reading them again, that the HBO series is good and resembles the books a lot, and since the author is really involved in the making, then we are certain the next season will be greater because book 2 is Great!
What did you guys think of the books? Have you read them? Did you start to watch the show? As a plus, it has Lin-Manuel Miranda and James McAvoy on the cast, I love both of them, but I’d recommend reading the books before next season starts.
That’s truly it, I hope you enjoyed it, all my ramblings are always somewhat cut short or extended to the extremes (not quite but close). I’ll leave you, readers, some useful links below.
