Hello, dearies! 🐉
Welcome to a new Spoiler Time Sunday, coincidence that today is also House of the Dragon? Maybe, maybe not!
But I have been working on this project for ASOIAF for a while now, and I’m excited to share the first part of it, and why not with a spoiler moment plus Targaryens.
This Spoiler Sunday will be a little different than other, as it is more of an appreciation of House Targaryen more than anything, but yes, there are spoilers ahead so be warned.
Dany
You know where I am going with Fire and Blood, our beloved Dany! Her house, the Targaryens, are old and they believe in these words because of… Dragons! Of course, among other things. I love this family more than any other because of the dragons, and Daenerys is one of my favourite characters in the books, plus she has three freaking dragons which she brought to life herself. Awesome.
I love Dany, she is one of my favourite female characters in the world of books. The perfect example that young heroines in their teens do not have to have mindless thoughts. Daenerys Targaryen is in her early teen years and has accomplished more than most adults in Westeros ever will. Every single time there was a chapter from Daenerys’ point of view, the world became better. Too much? I am in love with that character and I do not care. She is the first in a saga where I like a female character more than a male one.

The Dragon Has Three Heads
We never met Rhaegar Targaryen, Dany’s oldest brother. He seemed to be one of the best characters in the books. We know that he was in love with Lyanna Stark, and she was probably his second wife (or just his mistress), since the Targaryens believe in marrying in triple because “the dragon has three heads.”

Viserys Targaryen, who was heir to the throne after Rhaegar’s children were murdered, did not have much of the blood of Dragons, and quite honestly, he was a bit crazy. The craziness that apparently afflicts all Targaryens.
Dany had a niece (Rhaenys) and still has two nephews, you know where I am going with this. Two of these children were of Rhaegar and Elia Martell. The youngest, the boy, survived the sack of King’s Landing by the Lannisters when the Mad King died, and Aegon VI was saved by the very own Lord Varys. This is all actually in the book, and if George fooled us then he is crueler than we believed. (Notice that I am not talking about the TV show).
The other nephew seems to be Jon Snow, who is actually Jon Targaryen Stark, Ice and Fire? Everyone saw it coming. Apparently, when I read the books, I did not quite make this connection because the clues were not that obvious, no matter what anyone says. Just the memory of Ned about Lyanna telling him to “Promise her”, how were we to affirm anything with that? But in the TV show it was confirmed, even if we wanted to know or not.
Because book six is not here (Winds of Winter), yet, and we are not reading it anytime soon (as of June 2026). We only have the show as a source of information and the snippets that the author has given us. It would be nicer to read a book though.

Fire and Blood and House of the Dragon don’t really count as they’re prequels, but they’re there if you need your fix while we wait. 👀 I have Fire and Blood, actually, both as an eBook and as paperback, but I haven’t finished it.
At the very least we know that Dany will be going to Westeros at some point, that she has dragons to take what is hers, that Aegon’s lineage will be questioned, and that Jon’s is still a mystery in the books. George, we are waiting. 🐉
That’s all from me today, told you it would be different from the rest. So, which Targaryen is your favourite? Dany, Rhaegar, or someone further back in the lineage? Drop it in the comments, no wrong answers. Mostly.
