Carrie by Stephen King: A Book I Never Read but Feel Like I Have

As Halloween approaches, excitement is building around the new Carrie adaptation… But the original story, set in the late 70s, portrays Carrie White’s struggles with isolation and power, too…

Hello, dearies! Welcome!

Since Halloween 2026 is growing closer and the new Carrie show just came out, I decided it was time to talk…

In the new Carrie, all I know is this, that unlike the new show, the book does not take place in modern times, it is set in the late 70’s.

So this book by Stephen King was his first published one, did you know? And it is not a regular book, it mixes the story with newspaper snippets, book excerpts, and reports about what happened at the end, but do not believe me on pace or what that is like, I have not read it.

I have watched 3 out of the 4 adaptations of it. The original movie from 1976, it was, I am not going to say scary the first time but it was creepy. But I watched it again this year and it was interesting to see the style of the 70’s versus right now. The Chloë Grace Moretz movie (2013), I liked it enough. And now this new version on Amazon Prime Video (very good).

Which Margaret White scared you most? Piper Laurie (1976), Julianne Moore (2013), or Samantha Sloyan (2026)?

Book Description:

Carrie White is unpopular at school and lives under her mother’s religious fanaticism at home. When someone shows her an unexpected kindness, it feels like her first real chance at being normal. What nobody counts on is Carrie’s telekinetic power, and prom night in her small town of Chamberlain, Maine, ends in disaster.

Genre: Horror (supernatural, gothic), told partly as an epistolary novel

Author: Stephen King

Year published: 1974

And I only found out recently that it was his first book published, but not the first he wrote, also he almost gave up on it. He threw the first pages in the trash, his wife Tabitha pulled them out, and the book is dedicated to her.

Will I read it? I could, after this last adaptation and after watching the movie again, it gave me a sense of curiosity.

How about you, dearies? Have you watched Carrie or read the book? What did you think? Let me know in the comments.
