Oh boy, I do like the dark ones. And the elves.
Welcome, dearies! 📖
It is a new day for a book review about Eternal Mates, this time book 18. If you were here when I started with these, you have followed the progress with me.
If you arrived at Avenged by an Angel book 16, you might know that I read 3 of these books in a row. 16, 17, and 18. I was building myself up to this one to be honest. I could have jumped from Unchained by a Forbidden Love to this one, but I decided to follow the order.
I am glad I did, and at the same time a bit disappointed because it was a journey that veered off from what I was expecting.
The thing about these books as that you could read them as stand-alone but at the same time, not, because there are some details let’s say from Kissed by a Dark Prince, Book 1, that you might need for this one book 18. So, I read more of these but at the same time could have skipped some parts.
That’s why not all of the books have 5 stars for me.
But back to Scorched by Darkness, which has dark elves, and you might think that is super dark, but not in these books. It was a genius thing to do, and I suppose that is why I kept reading the books.
Alright, alright, I’m rambling a little bit. I will try to focus for a bit.
Be warned, there might be spoilers in this review.
About the Book
Author: Felicity Heaton
Title: Scorched by Darkness
Series: Eternal Mates Book #18
Genres: Paranormal. Dark elves. Hell. Fantasy. Drama. Romance.
Page Count: 369 pages
Scorched by Darkness is the book of another dark elf, Hartt, and a girl who is badass and an Assassin like him, but it hooked me from the start for that and because of how it began, it slowly built up. And I was skeptical at first about it but only because of how some of the other books tended to disappoint me at some point.
But we’re in Hell once more and we are hunting, and the whole story makes me immerse myself, I know, I have said more before about this book… it’s one of those you have to read and make it your own personal go-to read. Well, not so much, but really, I really enjoyed it.
I’m rambling, here’s a quick description of the book:
Even for one of the top assassins in Hell like him, Hartt’s latest contract would have been difficult enough, but there’s a complication, a beautiful, flame-haired, and dangerously tempting complication. Not only is the bewitching female a distraction he doesn’t need, she’s the competition.
Basically what I just said… lol.
Notes from Each Chapter
I don’t have many notes on this one, but mostly because I was too busy reading to stop and make notes about the book. But here are some…
Chapter 19
- Page 147
He would never choose his ki’ara over true love. He wasn’t interested in tying himself to one female forever through an unbreakable bond just because some biological connection had pushed her onto him. He didn’t want a mate. He wanted love.
Me: Well this is a first. and he doesn’t know, he would fall for her?
Chapter 21
- Page 161
“It is how I feel too. I have never really believed in fated mates. I wanted love, real love, and I am starting to believe I have found it.”
- Page 162
“And what is true love?” Something he was sure neither of them had felt before this moment. The tiny flare of fear he could feel in her, the tremulous beat of her heart, and the subtle change in her scent made that clear to him. She was afraid of trusting him with her heart, but she didn’t need to fear. If she offered it to him, he would treat it with the utmost care, would cherish it. And he would offer his in return. “This, Mackenzie.” He pressed a hand to his chest, flattening his palm over his heart, and his brow furrowed as he gave up trying to control his emotions, as he let them flood him so she could sense them and see them in his eyes.
Me: not believing is not the same as not wanting it or shun it away. and did you fall in love at first sight? and sorry to sound unromantic, just had to say it
Chapter 22
- Page 167:
‘and the female continued to block him whenever he tried to get near his beautiful ki’ara.’
Me: now she is your ki’ara…
Chapter 31
- Page 245
“or that too long has passed since he took your blood.”
Me: that’s all I’m saying
Chapter 32
- Page 249
“I would have been lost without you. I am lost without you.”
My Rating and Recommendation of SBD
Yes, I did give it 5 stars, but it was not because of the whole book, and more because of how it flowed.
When I finish a book and I hit 5 without a thought, it’s the real deal, regardless of if I had my doubts sometimes or if I went and rolled my eyes at some point… I did. It doesn’t matter if by the end, I nod and hit five. But if I hesitate then it isn’t. So, yeah, I do recommend it, and if you have read any of the previous books, you will love this one. And if you haven’t? Then you are going to be slightly lost.
That’s it from me, dearies! Thank you for sticking to the end of yet another ramble on books that maybe you haven’t heard about, and if you add it to your list or have read it before, let me know in the comments.
