The Bane Chronicles: The Fall of the Hotel Dumort

“What do you do?” the woman asked.
“This and that,” Magnus said.
“Are you in fashion? You look like you’re in fashion.”
“No,” he said. “I am fashion.”

The Fall of the Hotel Dumort

Or a Friday Flashback! 📚

Hello, dearies! Welcome back to the Shadow World! 💙

I had stopped posting about The Bane Chronicles, story by story, but here I am again, The Fall of the Hotel Dumort was next in line after Saving Raphael Santiago, and it could be said it follows: The Rise of the Hotel Dumort.

Author: Cassandra Clare and Maureen Johnson

Collection: The Bane Chronicles

Number in Collection: 7

Genres: Supernatural. Shadowhunters. Short Story. Vampires. Warlocks.

Who? Well, Magnus Bane

Shadow World

Rating: 4 out of 5.

What is The Fall of The Hotel Dumort?

It is the short story of how in the 70’s and way before The Mortal Instruments, Magnus was in New York City, or arriving back from London after being away for a few years, but there is a disease going about… or dr$gs more like, and it affects the vampires, because it is The Fall of the Dumort, right?

So, Magnus once more it is involved with something that he doesn’t particularly wanted to, but being his usual self: a caring person. He tries to help in his own way, but it all goes to hell real quick and werewolves get involved, on this story we don’t see any Shadowhunter, and it was fine. It was not really about them this time.

And yes, it is all a bit fresher in my mind because I couldn’t recall what this short story was about and I read it before writing this, The Bane Chronicles stories are usually quick and to the point, and you can read them all in a weekend, perhaps, or at least a couple of them. If you don’t like Camille (like me) then you might be a little on edge while reading this one, like: ugh, enough. However, it is a piece of history of Magnus and we understand more about him before TMI.

Wow, I went on far more than I thought I would, so if you are looking for a shorter version of all of that, here’s the official description.

Story Description:

Magnus Bane watches the once-glamorous Hotel Dumort become something else altogether in 1970s New York City.

Fifty years after the Jazz Age rise of the Hotel Dumort, immortal warlock Magnus Bane knows the Manhattan landmark is on the decline. The once-beautiful Hotel Dumort has fallen into a decayed thing, a ruin, as dead as a place can be. But the vampires don’t mind…

Truly, that doesn’t tell you much. But I don’t think what I said is considered spoilers, so you should be good to go and read it again, if you are doing a throwback or flashback into the Shadowhunter novels. It is always a treat to read them, but going into the series like TMI, whoa, that would be something else. I want to, but it will take time.

I still got that anxious feeling inside like: I have to read it again.

It might pass, or I might end up re-reading all the books once more because they are great.

Anyway, I’ll stop my ranting now. If you have read The Fall of Hotel Dumort, or any of The Bane Chronicles stories, let me know in the comment, I love hearing from you, too.

‘That had been in London, and it had been a different world. Their romance had happened in fog. It had happened in carriages bumping along cobbled streets, on settees covered in damson-colored silk. They’d loved in the time of the clockwork creatures, before the mundane wars.’
