Mags, Finnick, or Johanna? Who deserves the next Hunger Games book?

Are we finally getting a Finnick Odair or Mags prequel? I am breaking down the latest Hunger Games rumors and exploring which Victor’s era of Panem actually deserves the next book.

Hello, dearies!

Welcome to a rant on The Hunger Games and the upcoming (not official) next books. I am doing this because I saw a post on IG about the ‘rumours’ of Finnick Odair’s prequel book, this is not an official announcement, not one that I have seen at least.

So, I am a seeker, and I immediately went and looked for it to see if Suzanne Collins had made an official announcement about the next book, there is none.

The current one: Sunrise on the Reaping, it is barely getting the movie out this year, if and when (they probably will) announce a new prequel, it might not be for a couple of months, now, if you know something I don’t like an interview of this year or an official news report, let me know, I am all ears and I’ll be happy about it. But no, there is no Finnick book (yet). Talked about it? The production or whoever of The Hunger Games mentioned it, yes, but that’s it.

Now, who would be deserving of this honour? Who would we want to see on the next book prequel? Probably Finnick so we can cry and be completely even more traumatised than we were after Haymitch’s Quarter Quell book, wow, that was rough. Who then? I did the math, and my hopes are as follow.

Beware, there might be spoilers ahead if you haven’t read the books.

Mags, Finnick, or Johanna?

These three are by no means any less or more deserving among themselves or among other victors. But if we had to choose between Mags’ 11th Hunger Games, Finnick’s 65th Hunger Games and what happened to him after he won, or Johanna’s 71st Hunger Games and what happened to her family afterwards, well, it would be a tough choice. I thought that Mags would be next to be honest, but if it is popularity it might be Finnick (and more drama and emotional damage), Johanna, I didn’t think she would be quick to make an appearance to be honest.

Now, if Suzanne was doing it for the what is happening in the Capitol pov or how it went from Haymitch onwards? Then probably Finnick, if we want to go back in time and see what happened just after Snow started to climb the ladder to becoming the crazy SOB he is after, then that would be Mags’ Games because it was right after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, like in it, that was the 10th Hunger Games, everything was still messy and not exotic (debauchery) of 60 years later.

But if we watch Haymitch’s movie, then we will think of Finnick, which is 15 years later, we will get to see Haymitch again, we will see Mags mentoring Finnick, we will see how the Capitol is turning even more rotten and where it is going until it becomes what it is in Katniss and Peeta’s Hunger Games. If you have no clue what I’m talking about, let me give you a snippet.

Finnick’s backstory, in The Hunger Games, he is an adult but in the books (not the movies), we find out that he was the youngest to win the games (14y), he then went on to be practically sold to the Capitol and to everyone there for anything they wanted (including s*x), yep, and that applies to Johanna, too, only they don’t go into much details as with Finnick. So, clearly, he will be next? It could be.

But, what is the difference between those Games and years?

I have that question answered as well.

The Differences in the Story of Panem

  • The 10th Hunger Games: During Snow’s youth, the games are scrappy, low production, and mostly experimental. All of which we see in the book.
  • The 11th Hunger Games: This is Mags time, we will have to assume that they were similar to the ones a year prior, and Snow probably is still trying to climb his way up.
  • The 50th Hunger Games: Haymitch’s time, Snow is in power, has been for a while in fact, and the games and power of the capitol is controlled, authoritarian, the technology is strong but not 74th Hunger Games steady, also, they are not as smooth with the games, yet, the “glamour” of the Capitol is not 100% as what it is later.
  • 65th-74th Hunger Games: From Finnick to Katniss’ time, there is a major change and commercialisation that rides on the trauma of the victors aka the Games. The Victors are brands. The Capitol is drunk on power, everything is decadent, people modify themselves, and morality is basically nonexistent, it is a complete chaos in Panem, or of the ones that live in the Capitol vs the Districts. Which eventually leads to the peak point and Katniss being the catalyst for the rebellion.

There you have it, that is the difference and why there is so much rumour and talk of what can come next, but in the end, there will be other books, there is so much hype and talk of it, that I don’t think that Suzanne will not have plans for the other stories, I would do it if I were her.

Well, that’s it from me on this one, you may consider this post a spoiler Sunday, I haven’t done one of those in a while. But between all of these characters, who do you think should have the next book covered? Finnick, Mags, or Johanna? Personally, Finnick, but either of the others will do.

Although, here’s a question that not many ask, do you think it should not be a Victor’s story? Because I have thought of that, either a character that is not in the Hunger Games, or even a Victor from Districts 1 to 3, that would be interesting to me, knowing those other districts, which are always put aside.

What do you think? Drop your favourite theory for the next book in the comments.

Thank you, dearies! And may the odds be ever in your favour.
