Hello, dearies!
As you know, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is one of my favourite KDramas, it stars IU and Lee Joon-Gi, two actors I have started to believe are top-notch and I would watch anything with them in it.
So, I was browsing around, checking other dramas that are similar because why not? And while The King: Eternal Monarch did came up as a suggestion is not 100% focused on ‘time travel’, I know, I have watched that one like four times, I really like it.
Also, spoiler into this blog post, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, is not on the list, one because I didn’t know that was the plot of the story, and two I didn’t want to read anything else about and spoil it for myself further.
That said, here are 5 Time-Travel dramas for you if you loved Moon Lovers.
Be advised, I haven’t watched these, so I cannot say if they are the best thing ever. It is only a list of recommendation, and it acts as a list for me, too.
Rooftop Prince (옥탑방 왕세자)
This one is a bit different from what we are used to seeing, that is, the lead being transported to the past, and instead it goes to the future, not sure how that would work out for me, I do like, going to the past.
Crown Prince Yi Gak finds that he has been transported from the Joseon Dynasty to modern-day Seoul. He meets Hong Se Na, who bears a striking resemblance to his dead wife, and is determined to solve the 300-year-old mystery of her death. With his own resemblance to the CEO’s grandson at the company where Se Na works, Gak assumes the identity of the young man to stay close to her.
Can the Crown Prince navigate a modern corporation to find clues to his own time period?
Live Up to Your Name (명불허전)
This one doesn’t look like a big romantic one, but it is Historical, Romance, Medical, and Fantasy, so it is worth giving it a look, at least watching the first episode.
Heo Im, born into a concubine family during the Joseon era, possesses exceptional medical skills yet finds himself frustrated by his inability to rise through the ranks of government due to his background. However, fate intervenes when he accidentally travels through time to modern Seoul, 400 years later, where he encounters the modern doctor Yeon Gyung. Initially perplexed by Heo Im’s presence, she plans to rid herself of him but, instead, they embark on a thrilling journey back to Joseon together.
My Only Love Song (마이 온리 러브송)
To be honest, looks more like a comedy than a romance or the heart-stopping moments of other shows. But according to the description it is time-travelling, so might work.
Soo-jung is a self-assured actress who knows that status and wealth can open doors. By chance, she stumbles into a time-slip portal and travels back to 6th-century Goguryeo, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, during the reign of King Pyeongwon. There, she encounters On-dal, a man driven by his desire for riches, willing to go to great lengths to acquire them. Yet, beneath his ambitious exterior lies a compassionate heart, as he generously aids the weak and helpless.
Chart Running Scholar (차트를 달리는 선비)
This shows, if the poster is not deceiving, looks a bit more serious and like there might be more to the story. Because one of the things about Moon Lovers, was that, the story, the characters, the depth of it, so it is not too much to ask for a bit more meat to it, right? Lol.
A time-slip stock romance that takes place when a scholar of the Joseon Dynasty, An Ta, meets Min Ji, an MZ generation office worker, and discovers his talent for stock investment that he did not know.
My Perfect Stranger (어쩌다 마주친, 그대)
The 80’s is one time that I don’t mind going back to, and although this is not travelling in time by centuries, it stills sounds interesting enough to add to the list.
A drama about a strange and beautiful time travel between a news anchor and an ordinary office worker trapped in 1987.
What do you think? Are you watching any of these time-travelling dramas? I could watch My Perfect Stranger and Chart Running Scholar (or Scholar Running the Charts), but the others, I don’t know. However, they are not widely available, the Running Scholar I didn’t find a streaming service offering it. And My Perfect Stranger is probably on Viki if you are outside of South Korea, but otherwise, I didn’t see it.
In any case, that’s all from me, thank you, dearies!
