Hello, dearies! 🪄
I haven’t done a review like this one before… 📚
Book Title: Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard
Author: Tom Felton
Genres: Actor Biography. Nonfiction. Rich & Famous Biographies. Memoir. Autobiography.
Page count: 288 pages
I didn’t give it 5 stars because he is Tom Felton, but it might have something to do with it, maybe for the last half point to reach 5.
But the thing is, it doesn’t matter whether it is 5 or 1 or 3, because this is his life and the moments he lived, up to until he found himself. That’s what I read towards the end, someone who was lost and managed to crawl out of the unfulfilling part of his life that was not going where he wanted. (I’m not talking about his work as an actor or Harry Potter).
It’s understandable, and it is not surprising that he went through so much while living away from the U.K. and in a world that might be more into fame, glory, and partying than anything else. You think that his portrayal of it all might be his personal experience vs other regular ones, but more are the times that you see people swept up into the glamour and lights than those that manage to remain themselves.
And I’m glad that Tom did that, it was fulfilling towards the end, to know how much he learnt and grew as a person, honestly, I was glad to read about it, even when I didn’t have all of that high hopes when I first bought the book.
It was my first biography, and it was pretty well-written and easy to follow. Sorry if that sounds clinical, but how can we do a review out of a person’s life? I rather do a book review of how the book was formatted, executed, and delivered. Because who am I to comment on his life choices or how he travelled here or there, or anything?
I was basically reading a story of a guy and what he went through, and getting to know him, it was nice, so I enjoyed it and gave it the deserved attention.
He made me laugh, and tear up, and wonder about other aspects of life in the biz, but that was that. It is so weird to talk about a biography, seriously, have you tried it? Because when I talk about a fiction, fantasy, or romance novel, I go all in about the characters and what they went through, or how I viewed it all, but here I feel like I would be passing judgment on a person’s life, and I don’t particularly do that because it is none of my business.
Got carried away there. 😂
But in any case, putting all of that aside, if you’d like to know more about Tom’s life, the real accounts of his growing up as he saw it and experienced it, and if you want to say: aw I remember that about the movies. Then of course go in and read.
However, if you read it to pass judgement, I do not recommend it to anyone, that’s just mean to do, and nobody should read for that reason. Go in with an open mind, enjoy the read, and all the details of a great actor because he is.
That’s all from me, I didn’t think it would take me long, yet, here we are. Have you read it? Let me know in the comments or in the poll I added, or if you have it in your TBR.
