Hello, dearies! 📚
So I have seen some are curious about Bu Bu Jing Xin, which is literally translated as ‘Scarlet Heart‘ is the novel where Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo came from, I mentioned this on my reviews of this awesome K-Drama, but it all goes back to a book.
I don’t know much to say about it, other than what I have discovered online, so here are my findings.
About the Book
Title: Scarlet Heart
Author: Tong Hua (桐华)
Year Published: 2005
Genres: Historical Fiction, Romance, Time Travel, Drama
Page Count: Varies by edition, but generally around 400–500 pages per volume (the book is often published in multiple volumes)
Original Name: 步步惊心 (Bù Bù Jīng Xīn)
Originally it was published as web novel, which apparently is a common practice in China for this type of book. 🐱 And since it was well-received, then they decided to publish it, the page count differs also, depending on the publishing house.
Is the original story different?
This novel, Bu Bu Jing Xin (步步惊心: Scarlet Heart) is a Chinese time-travel romance novel written by Tong Hua (桐华). And no, it’s not that much different except for the location of it.
The original story, also follows a modern woman: Zhang Xiao, who is transported back in time, but to where? This is where it is different in the location, as it is Chinese, then of course, she is taken back to Qing Dynasty where she wakes up as Maertai Ruoxi, a young noblewoman during the reign of Emperor Kangxi. Around the late 1600’s to early 1700.
I don’t know much about the dynasties of China, so that doesn’t mean much to me, but it is still pretty much the same as the Korean drama since as Zhang is there, she meets the princes and the rivalry that exist. Now, don’t think I read the book, which is in Chinese after all, and I cannot read Chinese for the live of me, and all I know of the language is hello and thank you. And sadly, there is no official translation of it, some fans have tried but only in parts, but those are not accurate 100% or completed, but it is fun to read if you’d like to know more.
As for the original book it can be found in a couple of sites and be downloaded, so if you know Chinese and would like to read it, here are some options:
- Bu Bu Jing Xin – Chinese
- Free Download (supposedly): Bu Bu Jing Xin – Original
I’m unfamiliar with both of those sites, but they seem standard, you login and download, perhaps? If you go ahead and do it, let me know how it goes for you.
And that is what I found out about this novel, dearies. Or book series, it was fun to research it, but since it is not in English or Spanish, I cannot read it for now and know for sure how different the story is from what I know of Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
For now, that’s all, thank you for reading and staying to the end, hopefully, your doubts were also put to rest. See you on the next one! 😊
