Beautiful Oblivion: Book Review (Finally Read it!)

“I’ve had a lifetime of wrong. You’re the only thing that’s right.”

new book review for the maddox brothers novels

Oblivion indeed. 😮

Hello, dearies! 📚

OMFJC on a cracker. 🍂

This woman got me, I didn’t see that coming. I had no clue. I still don’t understand what the big secret is about.

Other than the fact that TJ knew that Trenton was in love with Camille his whole life and he still went and asked her out, crappy move there, but I suppose since they were not together it was fair.

But I did not know it was HIM.

Okay, let’s do this review right.

Year published: 2014

Book Series: The Maddox Brothers (Book #1)

Book Title: Beautiful Oblivion

Author: Jamie McGuire

Genres: Romance. New Adult. College. Contemporary. Fiction. Trickery (that’s my particular take).

Page count: 337 pages

Rating: 5 (for tricking me to the end)

Wow. 👌

I was going to give it 4 stars by the end but then I thought about it better and considered the fact that I had no f–ing clue what was happening with TJ and well, decided that my 70% assessment and consideration of giving it 5 stars was right because I did enjoy this book a lot and I wanted to know what the heck was going on. I thought he was running from the police. That he had a secret child with Cami. That he had killed someone. At the end, I thought he had married her. But I never thought not even when Trenton hugged him, not even when TJ said that he was not going to be on the way, or that they would all figure it out, did I think, oh wait maybe he is freaking—! I cannot say it because it is spoiler. How was I supposed to guess that ending? And that’s how it ended?

Alright, get ready because I’m about to give spoilers about Beautiful Oblivion, and deal! I cannot hold it in any longer, I have to. 😮😄

SpoilerAlert kittens

Alright, so Jamie got me with this one and I re-read the freaking name at the end a dizillion million times and then the book was over, but were there any clues to who TJ was? Other than these clues? 😄

The year before in March, Thomas was at the club and the twins were with him tricking Cami into giving them free drinks.

Trenton said that Thomas had a job far away or something like that.

Raegan told her to tell Trenton and Cami almost had a fit about it.

Cami longing for TJ to take away the burden of it.

Bishop saw him and said: That’s TJ.

I mean and other similar clues but none of it make me think of his identity being the questioning factor. Although the insistent TJ did bother me.

In any case, setting that aside I’ll talk about Cami and Trenton, and sigh, Trenton 🫠

I might like him more than Travis. But I have to finish the whole series to be able to give that final statement.

book review

This has nothing to do with him having tattoos all over as that’s rarely mentioned, but when Cami started on the tattoos as well it made me go, wow calm down there. That was faster than her accepting her feelings or facing the fact that she would eventually move in with him.

Now, even when he is the real type of ‘touch her and I kill you’ and it has nothing to do with the book I read prior to it, I could not help thinking of the comparison to Bullets and Bonfires, because I found myself saying that this was how it should be. Even if on BnB there was just the psycho ex who beat her girlfriend, and here we got a girl who was trying to get some money and leave an abusive home where her father beat her mother, it still applied in the whole abusive and struggling environment and how it was handled. I know they are leagues apart but there were parts that just made me think of the difference in type of writers.

I’m being confusing, I know, I just don’t want to drag the name of an author over another, everyone is different.

I’ll focus back on Beautiful Oblivion. Promise.

et si le droit chemin netait pas toujours le bon

What I like about Jamie McGuire books (the three I have read) is how real they are, you cannot beat that type of Geez that’s just foul language, why do they speak like that? But I still read it and enjoy it.

Cami

Camille Camlin, lol, let me laugh a little more about that name, this is the only thing I smirk about from this author, the names of the main characters: Abby Abernathy, Camille Camlin, Liis Lindy. Come on.

Anyways.

Cami or Camille is a young woman who is still in college because of happenstance in her life, twenty-two and living with her roomie Raegan, she has a boyfriend that she has not seen in months, we only know his initials (another clue as to who he was), T.J, we cannot blame him for leaving him as he had a super secret job that he cannot talk about with anyone, when he founds out that Trenton is talking, paying attention, and overall being there for Cami, he asks her to go visit him after he had been cancelling on her for months. But Cami goes because she cannot decide between the two.

That’s not even the story here, well it is, but as part of it all, we get to have Travis and glimpses of his relationship with Abby (B.D), so this means that this book happens a few months before Beautiful Disaster, during it, and after it. She packed it all in there. Back to Cami, who basically ran from her home but not from her family as she cares for all her brothers, but she has a sh*** relationship with her dad and her mom, too, to be honest, she kind of judges her mom for staying with her dad, and she takes on the fall for everything so her brothers are happy living there (?), I didn’t relate to it, but okay.

So, she works two part time jobs, goes to school, is a bartender, and totally falls for Trenton who she has known since they were kids.

Trenton

Trenton Maddox, the tattoo artist who dropped out of college and leaves with his dad to help him through because he is a widower, and who cares about everyone, even babysits a little kid because, why not? Throw into the mix, the fact that this guy is adorable even if he would beat the sh*** out of anyone offensive or anyone who messes with Camille, his family, him, his friends, and that is quite a list, or even, strangers. The guy is a frigging vigilante with tattoos. I am not a fan of low-cut hair but I can make an exception here because it really was not something that on the way of reading, and I was more engrossed in knowing other aspects of the book than any physical descriptions of anyone to be honest.

Mostly it all goes back to Cami and how in love he was with her, what make him finally go and be around her is beyond me but it was there, happening, and I went with the flow.

“I was in trouble. Big, disastrous, Maddox trouble.”

Back to the book

it is done

Apparently it took me nearly ten years to read this book since I added it to my TBR, did I know that a few days ago when I started reading it? No, do I regret waiting? Maybe a little bit. Am I going to read the other books in the series? Heck yeah. There never was a doubt about it.

Am I running a little more dramatically and almost cursing because of the book’s language? Probably, but this time it is worth it, granted, and totally cool.

Honestly, I don’t know why I waited so long to start this book series, but I am hooked now, I started reading Beautiful Redemption while writing this review. 😂

So, for the romance part of it, do not expect much of it, this is not a romance-romance novel, this is a slow-burn or the slowest burn, you will get a few glimpses of moments, and it is not a particulary dirty book, just that we are clear on that as it is a New Adult and College life mostly type, if you want romance novel, I have quite a few recommendations that you might enjoy: here. And that list does not cover all the books that I have read in that genre, I just didn’t post my book reviews on them before, why? I don’t know, if you are a regular of the blog, then you know that mostly I go fantasy and aliens. Manga. Anime. I have quite an extensive and varied taste, but mostly fantasy, yes. My favourite books are in that genre.

Anywho, let me wrap up this review for Beautiful Oblivion, which is related to Beautiful Disaster but not part of the mini series that contains that book, this is the Maddox Brothers Series, and you can say it is about Travis Maddox’s brothers solely, and to be honest, it seems like B.D will be left in the dust in my eyes by the time I am done reading all these books. I hope.

uno splendido sbaglio

As you might have noticed from this book rambling, I loved this book! And I recommend it! If you like new adult, contemporary, and regular romance with a touch of spice that will make you fall for the MC. I did not appreciate the ‘baby doll’ nickname or inking her skin with that but hey, that’s just me here. Personal opinion. It works for them.

Heavens, I do hope that is a ramble you understood and liked because I am done, truly now. It’s been a while since I went on like for a book, and I am glad I am back to reading, my dry seasons of books to drag a lot even when I wish I was reading every week, and then feel bad about not reading, it’s a vicious cycle but it happens. Well, that’s all for now, dearies! I do hope that you enjoyed it all, don’t forget to like, share, comment, and follow the blog for more.

If you have read this book, let me know, I’d love to know.

Happy reading! 📖
