Original Book: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
Hello, dearies! Welcome! 🔎
Have you watched A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder on Netflix? I have, it’s only 6 episodes so it passes by really quickly, just think of it as a 6 hours movie that resembles the book a lot, and it is for fans because I don’t think that those that are not fans would enjoy it quite as much.
Also, they could have been lying to me on some things and I wouldn’t have known because I read the book late in 2022 so yeah, my memories are a bit shady. I do know some things that they didn’t quite add in there or they reinterpreted it.
Anyway, I’m going off track and these about the first episodes, and then the rest of the show. Alright, I watched the first episode and this is how it went down…
Be wary, there might be spoilers if you haven’t read the book or watched AGGGTM.
The first thing I thought was: No. The dog!
Love the setting though, not exactly as I imagined it when reading the book but the town looks beautiful. More because I read the original version (UK).
I never had a particular face for Pip in mind, but Emma Myers seems pretty accurate for the part.
As soon as I saw Naomi’s dad, is this the guy? (It was, remember him for the end).
The Star-shaped dress, what’s with that? I didn’t get it. Once again, they could have been lying to me on this mini-series and I wouldn’t have known because I don’t remember that many details of the book. Like, I don’t remember a young Pip talking to Sal, but sure.
And the second episode rolled in easily, because I kept going without stopping.
It was Elliot, I remembered the name after a bit. Didn’t remember he was Cara’s dad.
Pip’s house looks like a castle, wooden doors, stone walls, I love it.
I loved how Pip was all awkward when someone older was talking to her topless. This is why I say that Emma is good for the part, I think she did a good job as Pip.
…
So, I don’t know if it is just me but this seemed less dark and antsy than the book. I remember that in the book, Pip was the sort of annoying teenager but everything seemed deeper than the show.
Also they skipped over a couple of things, so that might be it too. I remember things with the dr4g dealer differently than what they showed, I feel like there was more to it than that in the book, and they seemed to have skipped over it.
Overall, as I said before, it feels more to the fandom of the book than anything else, which is fine with me. But I wanted to show my fam and they were not enthusiastic about it.
In any case, I loved some of the songs selected, here’s a quick playlist for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder:
- “Gunshot” – Lykke Li
- “Seize the Power” – Yonoka
- “To Rage” – Daughter
- “Wet Dream” – Wet Leg
- “Midnight” – Siobhan Sainte
- “Sail” – AWOLNATION
- “Reception” – Daniel Avery
- “You Should See Me in a Crown” – Billie Eilish
- “5 In the Morning” – Charli XCX
- “Concrete Over Water” – Jockstrap
- “Keep the Streets Empty for Me” – Fever Ray
- “Out of Control” – The Chemical Brothers
- “Nothing Is Safe” – Clipping
The question remains, have you watched it, yet? Are you excited about the show? If you read the book you might be, when I watched the trailer it seemed better than the book to be honest, and I felt like it was a good adaptation, even if they didn’t include the ending of the book and did not go to deep into Pip and Ravi’s relationship, which definitely grew and was shown on the book, but here they decided to focus on the murder/solving a cold case part of it.
If they go ahead with the second book (Good Girl, Bad Blood), which is about how Pip and Ravi Singh team up to release a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together the year before. And how the podcast goes viral, but Pip swears she’s done with investigating, if they do a season 2, it should be about this. But I haven’t seen any of it (not that I have looked for it).
In any case, that’s all for this one, I wanted to do a episode by episode type but this is cool, too. The whole show is here, and I did enjoy watching it. It was good to pass the time and to binge-watch. That’s all for now, if you have watched A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, let me know in the comments.
Don’t forget to like, share, and follow the blog if you are new here. If you are a follower already, thank you for coming back.
Thank you, dearies! And happy watching! 💘

I Think Emma Myers would bet a better choice as Snow White In Snow White (2025 film) then Rachel Zegler
