Drums of Autumn: TBT

“But a man is not forgotten, as long as there are two people left under the sky. One, to tell the story; the other, to hear it.”

OMG! It’s July already!😲 Almost August! 🥲

Hard to believe but half the year already, I need two months back.

Anyway, have you read the Outlander books? I read up to this book, which is book 4, then started book 5, and… I stopped without meaning to, I really should go back to it.

But today’s throwback is about Drums of Autumn, which is book 4 and it introduces so many characters in a deeper way.

Brianna. Roger. John.

Back in DoA, It’s life in the past but what I liked about it was Brianna’s journey. Alright, that’s spoilers if you haven’t read any of the books and you have no idea who anyone is other than Jaime and Claire from the show, and that if you only watched season 1, which is book 1 (Outlander). I don’t blame you if that’s all you watched though, it was a good season and a great start, but there’s more to it.

Let’s start with the plot.

Drums of Autumn – Book Plot

Claire Randall has gone to find Jamie Fraser, the man she loved more than life, and has left half her heart behind with their daughter, Brianna. Claire gave up Jamie to save Brianna, and now Bree has sent her mother back to the Scottish warrior who was willing to give his life to save them both. But a chilling discovery in the pages of history suggests that Jamie and Claire’s story doesn’t have a happy ending.

Brianna dares a terrifying leap into the unknown in search of her mother and the father she has never met, risking her own future to try to change history . . . and to save their lives. But as Brianna plunges into an uncharted wilderness, a heartbreaking encounter may strand her forever in the past . . . or root her in the place she should be, where her heart and soul belong.

book cover

The book description pretty much says everything that happens in this book. I don’t like that much of a specific description to be honest.

Back to my Thoughts

In any case, the biggest spoiler is what happens to Brianna. What she goes through to get to America, and after…

It is such a graphic, non-graphic scene of what Brianna suffered by the hands of Bonnet (a guy that Jamie had saved before), that I read it almost holding the book away from me, not wanting to finish it but at the same time I had to… I guess that was good writing, thinking about it more seriously. And well, I did like this book but I have no idea why I did not finish the next one The Fiery Cross, I have started it like three times and have not advanced from the first three chapters, it’s insane.

Anyway, this throwback was about the Drums of Autumn, which was published in December 30, 1996 and it has 928 pages! My god that is a lot for a book.

Have you read this book? Or any of the Outlander books? Back when the show premiered, I first watched season 1 and then dove right into the books, basically in one go up to the fourth one, I guess I had more time then, these days my muggle job keeps me from books but I really try to fix, that’s why I had the videos on my new channel and the podcast to chat about all the books I have read, and I have posted new posts here on the blog of the books I have read this year, which are not that many but I am trying for sure.

And thank you for always coming back to the blog, I really, really appreciate it. Well, my TBTs and Friday Flashbacks are always about those books that already have a review here or some that I have read in the past but never did the review, sometimes it’s shows too or movies, you can check others on the Flashback page.

Also, the original review for this book can be read here.

That’s all for this one, I hope you enjoyed going back to Drums of Autumn, and if you have read it and liked it (or not) you can let me know in the comments.

Have a nice one! Happy Reading! ⌚
