Hello, tributes! 🥲
Or do you prefer, hello, dearies!
Yes, that sounds better. 😆
It is a month since the release of Sunrise on the Reaping (The Hunger Games Book 0.5), and you know? It is time for some spoilers because I have seen some questions online that truly call for me to answer them, because come on!
On the one side, do you really want to know that? And on the other hand? I hope that these questions are being asked by someone who didn’t read the book because it is pretty straightforward.
Or at least, if you like The Hunger Games, if you know about Haymitch, and if you paid attention you can have your own interpretation of the book, as I did.
So, it is Sunday and it is time for some spoilers.
(Also I’m not going to give away all the main bits of the book), but some major facts.
- What was the second Quarter Quell? 🏹
- Are they making a Haymitch movie? 🎥
- Who is/was Haymitch’s girlfriend?
- Why was Haymitch’s family killed? 😿
- Should you read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes before Sunrise on the Reaping?
What was the second Quarter Quell? 🏹
I have talked about this before. But the second Quarter Quell was the 50th Hunger Games. As part of this special year, twice the number of tributes, 48 instead of 24, were reaped for the arena.
Let’s say, it was the way of the Capitol to further torment the districts and reinforce their power, or simply because it was a fun twist.
Are they making a Haymitch movie? 🎥
Yes. And I cannot believe that there is even a question about this, still. It was announced a while back.
But yes, a movie adaptation of Sunrise on the Reaping, focused on Haymitch Abernathy and the 50th Hunger Games, is indeed officially in development by Lionsgate.
The movie should be like the book, there is not much more that could go wrong, right? Right? Unless they mess up the arena or the cast, it should be alright, but for what I have seen of the rumored cast, it could work.
Who is/was Haymitch’s girlfriend?
A girl from 12. But in reality she is not because she is from the Covey like Lucy Gray Baird, apparently, though this seemed like a bit of a stretch, and I hadn’t seen any official statement to support this claim. But Lenore Dove was her name.
And I did find her a bit annoying. #sorrynotsorry
Why was Haymitch’s family killed? 😿
Because he was a mother-f-ing rebel in the making. He used the force field around the arena against them. He tried to blow up the arena. He was in cahoots with other tributes to end the games, and most importantly because President Snow is an SOB who was killing off family members left and right, and I still think that he was mellow in The Hunger Games because he didn’t end Katniss’ Mom or her sister, or Gale as soon as she arrived back at 12, imagine if he had? Perhaps we wouldn’t have the rest of the books, or perhaps Katniss would have gone mad and started a rebellion in 12. There’s a plot for you.
But yes, after Haymitch won the games and he tried his best to lay low during the celebration parties, the cages, the admiring people and all… well, Snow still thought he deserved to be a bit more aware of the fact that what he had done was bad and everyone he knew would die because of him, starting with his family, and so he decided to go live alone and not talk to anyone.
It was really rough specially and more painfully after Lenore. It really went downhill from there for Haymitch, and then drinking, and then the years started to pass him by. Quite a rough combination for a sixteen-year-old. Until The Hunger Games and he met Katniss and Peeta, and thought: hmm, maybe they can make a difference. Well, Katniss.
Any other spoilers you would like to know? Because there are plenty, but it would be best to read the book, or wait for the movie, I’m hopeful the film will be faithful, but I was with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and that was a bit of a disappointment, from an outsiders point of view (someone who is not a fan), like the one who watched the movie with me, it is not clear what that movie is about or why Snow was like that towards the end, the deeper traces of President Snow background were not completely captured in the movie.
And now I’m scared that will be the case with SotR, but other than that, it should be good.
I have rambled on enough about it, and gave the spoilers that I didn’t think I would so soon. Yet, here we are.
Thank you for sticking to the end, dearies! Don’t forget to share, like, comment, and let me know if you have read this book or you are planning on waiting for the movie. 😊
And btw, Have a nice Easter, if you celebrate it! 🐇
Extra Notes:
Should you read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes before Sunrise on the Reaping?
Yes. Maybe. Not really to be honest.
The bottom line is whether you want to know about President Snow because that is what TBOSAS is about, and nothing much. And the characters from it, don’t do a great deal of being prominent in Sunrise on the Reaping, Haymitch wasn’t even born on that one, so what does it matter? Only you will be to note little changes and stuff like that.
New Teaser Trailer
Is that spoiler? Well, in any case the new trailer for the movie is out now, but we still have to wait a year to go watch it…
Teaser time then, SOTR 2026 official Movie trailer is here… and it is already looking awesome!!!
